The absurd quality of some builds is just insane

I guess Instagram realized I’m into Gunpla now because lately I’ve started seeing a lot of related ads and reels.

The quality of some builds is just shocking.

Some of them are so meticulously painted in a sort of cel-shaded, cartoonish way that they make your head hurt from the illusion being so perfect.

Others have meticulously smudged and painted damage marks to the point that they look like they’ve just arrived from a battlefield and fought countless battles before.

It’s just absolutely insane and, to be honest, makes me feel a bit disheartened with what I’ve started referring to as vanilla builds.

After those reels from a few random builders, I saw something at an even higher level: an actual competition in Japan, with the best builders from all over the planet being flown in to display their models.

They not only meticulously paint the models in a realistic fashion, but also build super complex mini-scenery around them or stage fights between different Gunpla. It’s just crazy.

I don’t think I’ll ever graduate to that level, but I find it really amazing that there are people putting so much time and effort into this hobby.

Would love to see some models of that quality in person someday.

For the time being, back to my vanilla Perfect Strike.
